ElFaro Adult Day Treatment and Harm Reduction Program is Harlem United’s low threshold social day program for persons living with HIV/AIDS. True to Harlem United’s foundation of a collaborative, caring and healing community, El Faro provides safe, cul-turally aware, non-judgmental services to meet our clients where s/he is at. Above all, El Faro provides our clients with a sense of community—a place where they are affirmed, accepted, challenged and respected, a place they proudly could call, “home.”
our bilingual (English and Spanish) staff and consultants provide a wide array of services on-site to assist our clients in living with HIV/AIDS, substance use and/or mental health issues one day at a time.
Services not provided on-site, are referred to other programs within Harlem United, outside agencies or to the client’s provider of choice. We provide referrals for:
El Faro’s only admission requirement is a written confirmation of the client’s HIV status, usually in the form of an M-11q or its equivalent form coming from the New York State Department of Cor-rections.
Medicaid, legal immigration status or U.S. citizenship are not requirements for admission into El Faro.
