Healthcare for the Homeless

In July 2007, the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), a division of the federal department of Health and Human Services (HHS), designated Harlem United a federally qualified health center for the homeless.  As a result, Harlem United has established its Healthcare for the Homeless program

Through this program, Harlem United can now offer care to the over 3,000 homeless in Harlem, regardless of their HIV status.

Healthcare for the Homeless provides preventive health services, management of chronic conditions, mental health and substance use services, dental services, referrals, outreach, and intensive case management.

Most importantly, the program will offer comprehensive, coordinated, and high-quality primary care for this challenging population, who often suffer from mental illness and substance use, as well.

Our Healthcare for the Homeless program offers services to the homeless at both our in our East Harlem Health Center (El Faro) and our West/Central Harlem Health Center.
