The Harlem United Community AIDS Center provides weekly support groups, recreational activities, and educational workshops on a walk-in basis for any person living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Adult Day Health Care Program offers over 60 different groups throughout the week. Support groups are only available for ADHC enrolled clients.
These hour-long groups meet weekly (or occasionally bi-weekly) and cover a variety of topics and utilize a number of different modalities - talk therapy, art therapy, music therapy, therapeutic recreation, psychoeducation, etc. Some are open to any program members, others are closed and require an intake process to enroll. Most are ongoing groups, others are time-limited and relate to specific topics such as money management or smoking cessation.
Groups are facilitated predominantly by master's degree level staff. Groups offered include HIV Support, Relapse Prevention, Sex Drugs & HIV, Women's Group, Men's Group, Latino Group (Encuentro Latino), Health Education, Coping Bridge (Methadone Maintenance), and Relationships & Sexuality.
