Transitional Housing I

The Transitional Housing Program I, with operating funds from MHRA (Medical and Health Research Association) provides 20 units of transitional housing utilizing a scattered site housing model to serve 20 single adult men and women living with HIV/AIDS.   Apartments are leased in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx.

The program provides housing, educational and clinical support services for a period of one year; after which time the residents will have achieved a level of self-sufficiency and housing readiness that will enable them to transition to permanent housing.  Seven staff, working together in an integrated therapies team model of care, provide a wide array of services designed to address the needs of program residents who are mentally ill, chemically addicted, living with HIV/AIDS, and experiencing other problems in living that constitute barriers to obtaining permanent housing placement.

To be eligible for admission to the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Single adult men or women living with HIV/AIDS.
  • HASA (HIV/AIDS Services Administration) eligible.
  • Persons who are challenged with addiction, mental health and functional living skills problems/issues such that they could benefit from an intensified, time limited program that can assist in the development and improvement of their life skills, engage residents in clinical support services that foster recovery and housing readiness, and assists with permanent housing placement.
