Help me reach my goal of: $25,000.00
So far I've raised:$16,889.00

What's up?! I'm Veronica Webb. You might know me as a Super Model or as a TV personality. That's been my job for over two decades. My most important work is being a mother to my two young daughters, protecting my health, strengthening my body in tandem with my spirit and being of service to my community. I've been involved in the fight against AIDS since the early 90's as a board member of LifeBeat.org.

They say "God puts you where you need to be." Right? Right. So, I'm out at dinner with Sabine Feldman, editor in chief of Shape Magazine and she'd just run her 9th marathon. In awe, I told her I always wanted to run the marathon, but something was always going on like I had to travel for work or I over trained and got hurt, or I was having a baby and a c-section or another baby another c-section and just never did it. I never gave up hope, but becoming a marathoner seemed to be farther and farther out of range as a working mom and a weekend athlete.

Between sips of wine and bites of asparagus spears, In total awe and humility I admitted distance running was something I couldn't crack. I just didn't think I could run that far (or that fast my ego told me). Sabine looked at me without shame and said, "I walked the first few races I did and built into a run." Hallelujah! I had permission now to try something I always wanted to do without putting pressure on myself to be perfect. Not a natural runner herself, Sabine turned me on to the Galloway method for runners. It's a run/walk technique that allows people who don't run more than three miles at a clip, or first time marathoners or people in their 40's and beyond, I fall into all those categories, to achieve distance safely. I went to sleep that night INSPIRED!

I woke up the next morning to the tweeting tone of a text. It was my friend Maryse Thomas. She wrote to ask me to run for Harlem United's Team. I jumped at the chance! Yes! This is the kind of stuff I pray for! I had a key to to the technique and an unshakable motivation. What could be more amazing than helping the population MOST in need of HIV/AIDS service providers while developing personal discipline, strength and stamina at the same time? I kept putting off the marathon because I thought I had to be fast or the best or whatever. But you know what, when you’re heart is in something you get it done no matter how, no matter what. I got the Galloway method (here’s the link by the way (www.jeffgalloway/training/marathon.html) and started training the next day. I thought even if I walk most of the marathon, I WILL HAVE DONE IT! No matter what, I can only get better at it.
I’ve never run more than 3 or 4 miles until yesterday. I built up slowly last week and ran 6.6 miles without too much pain by the end of seven days.

My heart is in it to help raise this money for our community. My heart is in it to reach this awesome goal. I hope you’ll join me and the Harlem United Team with generous donations, words of inspiration and encouragement on http://www.harlemunited.org/teamapollo/ I’ll be updating you on my training as I go along so definitely follow me on www.twitter.com/veronicawebb.
Everything we do in the fight against HIV/AIDS counts toward making the world a safer place.

Stay Good and Be Well,
Veronica
