Marathon fundraising page

Dear friends and family,
Thanks for donating! When you do, you'll be doing two equally fantastic things:

1) Helping me run my second marathon, and my first one in NYC (the city I'll forever call home even if I'm not living there at the time).

2) Raising money for Harlem United Community AIDS Center. The funds raised will support their work as a leading AIDS Service Organization in New York City, providing access to quality healthcare, HIV prevention, housing and care services to Harlem’s diverse community.

Reason #2 is especially important to me, as I've grown to know and love Harlem and all its people, spirit, and eccentricities over the past year. Last year I served the East Harlem community all day, every day, as a volunteer tutor, mentor, and after school programming coordinator at Middle School 45.

My year with City Year at MS 45 has ended and I've moved up to Boston to continue my trek toward becoming a teacher, but I don't want my impact on the Harlem community to stop here. As I've learned, health issues -- for both kids and parents -- can be a huge contributing factor to a student's lack of success in school in Harlem, because they cause families to shift their focus and resources away from their children's education and towards more pressing issues.

You can help the far-too-many Harlem residents affected by HIV/AIDS by tax-deductibly donating to the cause. Any amount at all will help provide the resources, care, and education necessary to keeping people healthy and alive, and to giving my students a better shot at staying in school through college.
