Director of Program Development, Strategic Advancement

The Director of Program Development, reporting to the Associate Vice President of Strategic Advancement, will play a leadership role in raising financial support from foundation and government funders through identifying and securing foundation and government grants and contracts. The Director of Program Development will be the agency lead on all grant writing assignments, stewarding Harlem United’s grants submission through the grants life cycle from kickoff to the submission phase. They will supervise the daily tasks and grant writing assignments of the Associate of Program Development. Education and Certificate: Bachelor’s degree required (English, communications, Journalism, social work);Master’s in a related field preferred (e.g., public health, sociology, public administration, communication, journalism);Successful work-experience may substitute for formal education requirements;4+ years of professional writing experience, preferably in a development/fundraising role; Proven grants awards’ track record as primary writer on proposals, demonstrating awarded proposals of at least $1M; Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Raiser’s Edge (or similar fundraising database software)Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritizing work and managing multiple, diverse, and competing priorities while meeting deadlines; Extensive knowledge of city, state and federal funding sources and processes required, with experience writing about health, housing, food and nutrition, and/or harm reduction grants preferred; Preference for those with working experience in non-profits or healthcare agencies and an understanding of HIV/AIDS, homelessness, and/or other barriers faced by underserved communities; Experience with oversight of projects throughout all phases of the development cycle; and Supervisory experience of staff.
