Harm Reduction Outreach Specialist, Prevention

The Harm Reduction Outreach Specialist is responsible for conducting targeted outreach efforts that engage active drug users, social service organizations, and service providers, in informational/educational sessions. The goal of the sessions is to provide community organizations with information on the outreach efforts of the Harm Reduction Department and to provide information on the Bronx Health Change Partnership, facilitated through New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The Harm Reduction Outreach Specialist conduct outreach efforts in parks throughout the Bronx and Harlem in an effort to educate the general public and individuals who inject substances about the kiosks in the park and about safer syringe disposal. The Harm Reduction Outreach Specialist will all refer and successfully connect members of the target population to drug treatment services, that include Detox (in-patient), medication assisted treatment, and other harm reduction treatment and rehabilitation services.  Education and Certificate: This position requires a high school diploma, college degree preferred, and two years’ experience in harm reduction, specifically with active injection and other drug users. CASAC certification a plus. Education can be substituted for work experience. Candidate should be familiar with drug treatment facilities and other social services agencies within New York City.
