Founded in a church basement at the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in 1988, Harlem United provides critical care to underserved communities struggling with multiple chronic conditions, such as HIV, serious mental illness, and substance use disorder. In 2000, we started providing primary care to our client population. Since then, Harlem United has expanded to offer an ever-growing array of integrated, co-located services including primary care and specialty care: cardiology, podiatry, gynecology, behavior health services, and substance use treatment.
At our two HRSA-funded, Healthcare for the Homeless Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), The Nest Community Health Center and The Willis Green Jr. Community Health Center, we offer world-class healthcare to people experiencing homelessness, Black and Brown communities of color, and people with low-income. We offer our services in English, French, and Spanish in affirmation of our clients’ cultural and linguistic preferences.
